Just outside of Hamilton is a winter experience your family will never forget.  The 17m waterfall is currently an ice sculpture that only nature could create. Not only can any member of the family get there from the (mercifully short) walk this time of year but you can actually go inside and explore this amazing ice cavern.

One word of advice, wear good boots (it was a little slippery) and bundle up!

3 Reasons to keep this Road Atlas in your car

IMG_20171211_1028079

The best selling Road Atlas in Canada is back and here are three reasons you should have it in your car.

1.  Maps help you plan.

GPS is great for great for “point A to point B” but what about what’s in between? Stop looking at a small segment of the road and see the big picture. It’s not about one or the other, GPS and maps are great together, because you get the now and become aware of all the awesome around you.

2.  Maps never lose service.

It happens, the signal is lost or it just keeps insisting you to drive into that lake. A road atlas is a wonderful second opinion that will also keep you safe and hopefully dry.

3.  Maps can’t run out of battery power.

It always happens when you need it the most doesn’t it? Losing battery power has an amazing sense of occasion. A Road Atlas can keep you from the eternity it takes for your phone to charge.

A road trip is a special time of happiness and excitement, please take us along with you to improve your experience, it’s what we do.

Get the 2018 Road Atlas from our webstore right now or check a retailer near you. Want to talk to us call us 1 877 231 6277

Friday Flashback: Colonel Sanders Map of Ontario

While most people would equate yellow  maps of Canada to MapArt Publishing, there was another contender in this realm. This Southern gentlemen was something of an entrepreneur and in the mid 1970s forged a road map promotion that promoted his growing number of Fried Chicken restaurants.

colfeature

Designed  in 1976 by Rolph McNally inc (we’re proud to have folks on the MapArt staff who actually worked on this BTW) the Kentucky Fried Chicken map of Ontario is an up to (that) date road functional map that highlighted every restaurant location by placing the Colonels face on it.

Hard to miss.

col2

A clever promotion for millions of day-tripping Canadian families who would be reminded whilst they travel that finger lickin’ goodness was always nearby.

While we’d recommend not using it for travel or locating KFCs nowadays (chances are some of them have moved in the last 42 years) , it is a wonderful curio that we’re happy to now have in our map library.

MapArt Day Trip #3: Ball’s Falls

Ball's Falls Conservation Area

Ball’s Falls Conservation Area

Ball’s Falls is located on Page 21, Grid B-22 (Jordan, ON) in the 2018 MapArt Ontario Back Road Atlas.

Nestled between Hamilton and Niagara is the treasure of a conservation area “Ball’s Falls” which offers not only the wonder of nature but a slice of Canadian History as well. The titular water fall can be viewed from two different vantage points (depending on how far you’d like to walk) and it is truly a marvel to behold. The high water levels make for a powerful display this time of year.

Another fantastic feature of Ball’s Falls is a wonderfully preserved 1800′s hamlet that includes a Church, Flour Mill, Black Smith, family dwelling and more. it’s presence encourages patrons young and old to learn about Canada’s history through exploration.

For the hiker, Ball’s Falls intersects with the Bruce Trail and gives a wonderful opportunity to walk the shore of the falls and get a close look at it’s beauty as well as some terrific exercise, I’ll warn you, there are some stairs. Find more about it here.
