MapArt Day Trip #4: Hilton Falls

hiltonfalls

Hilton Falls is located on Page 32, Grid 3-E (Campbellville, ON) in the 2018 MapArt Ontario Back Road Atlas. A pleasantly short drive NW of Toronto, Hilton Fall’s offers a wonderful bit of exercise combined with a truly tactile experience with nature.

The charming 4km hike back and forth to the falls we’d mark  as a “moderate” challenge, so every member of the family can enjoy it. The 10m high  falls  are the true highlight, as you can explore the remains of the mill and even go behind this wonder. (expect to get very wet if you do!).

Visiting Hilton Falls left us happy, our minds refreshed but our bodies very tired. Well worth a visit this summer.

The cost of entry was agreeable, for two adults and two children it was $23.

Tips- Go early, this is a popular destination that really packs up by early afternoon. Wear comfortable footwear and bring water. Allow at least two hours for your experience.

MapArt Day Trip #3: Ball’s Falls

Ball's Falls Conservation Area

Ball’s Falls Conservation Area

Ball’s Falls is located on Page 21, Grid B-22 (Jordan, ON) in the 2018 MapArt Ontario Back Road Atlas.

Nestled between Hamilton and Niagara is the treasure of a conservation area “Ball’s Falls” which offers not only the wonder of nature but a slice of Canadian History as well. The titular water fall can be viewed from two different vantage points (depending on how far you’d like to walk) and it is truly a marvel to behold. The high water levels make for a powerful display this time of year.

Another fantastic feature of Ball’s Falls is a wonderfully preserved 1800′s hamlet that includes a Church, Flour Mill, Black Smith, family dwelling and more. it’s presence encourages patrons young and old to learn about Canada’s history through exploration.

For the hiker, Ball’s Falls intersects with the Bruce Trail and gives a wonderful opportunity to walk the shore of the falls and get a close look at it’s beauty as well as some terrific exercise, I’ll warn you, there are some stairs. Find more about it here.
